Connections - July 2022

The recent 4th of July weekend showed that air travel continues to make a resurgence as Houston Airports reported passenger numbers approaching pre-pandemic (2019) levels. On July 14, representatives of 11 of the 12 congressional offices in Houston received a Houston Spaceport tour and an exciting “hands-on” progress update directly from Houston Airports’ senior leaders. Additionally, Houston Airports recently received notification that its two commercial airports will receive $43.6 million in federal funding that will allow for upgrades to airport terminals and improve energy efficiency. Ellington and Hobby Airports earned perfect reviews – no discrepancies - from the FAA’s annual CFR Part 139 inspection; Bush Airport also excelled. Over 270 participants came together for the FAA Triennial Large-Scale Exercise at Bush Airport. Houston Airports recently met with the Houston City Council’s Economic Development Committee and provided an update of the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP). The airport system also made changes to improve the recent traffic flow and reduce congestion at the airport. These and many other exciting stories are included in this month’s issue of Connections!

Connections - May 2022

As an integral component of the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program (ITRP), the MLIT Sterile Corridor Steel Erection Plan continues to move well, and action is captured in a thrilling video. The Houston Spaceport reached another notable milestone on May 11 when Axiom Space began construction for its new 22-acre Space Flight Training and Assembly Headquarters at the spaceport. On May 4, about 450 individuals received human trafficking prevention training at an important and well-attended event at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Connections - April 2022

Anchored by Director Mario Diaz, Houston Airports was well-represented when Mayor Sylvester Turner led a City delegation on a recent “Houston Week” marketing campaign in Mexico. Today, 74 portable works of art are now being enjoyed every day by hundreds of thousands of visitors at George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports.  Houston Airports said “thank you” to each of its Volunteer Ambassadors during National Volunteer Week that was observed April 17-23. Connections - March 2022

Houston Airports was well-represented at the return of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with a float, art exhibitions at Bush and Hobby Airports, and employees dressed for the occasion in their best western gear. During the month of April, Houston Airports joins the world in promoting Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD, Awareness. Houston Airports made a vast improvement in its badging offices, replacing the paper-based, manually intensive badging system with a contemporary, highly efficient commercial application. Houston Airport Interfaith Chapels are open to all and also stress community involvement through healthy interaction and fundraising. Connections - February 2022

Houston Airports is the recipient of the 2021 Energy Management Top Performer Award thanks to its concerted efforts to reduce energy consumption and achieve social, environmental and economic sustainability. February was Black History Month and the airport system recognized the tremendous contributions of African Americans in a variety of ways. Outstanding custodial professionals are often the “unsung heroes” of Houston Airports and deserve recognition for exemplary service, often far beyond their job descriptions. Connections - January 2022

The City of Houston now boasts the only 5-Star rated airport throughout the state of Texas and North America after William P. Hobby Airport achieved 5-Star Airport status in the latest annual Skytrax World Airport Star Ratings. The IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program, ITRP, continues to cross new and important construction milestones, the latest being the closure of the Terminal E Arrivals Curbside on Jan. 12. Houston Airports also continued to demonstrate its commitment to combatting human trafficking. That and much more in this edition of Connections!

Connections - December 2021

Houston Airports, along with the domestic airlines at Bush and Hobby Airports, celebrated passengers with useful gifts during Customer Appreciation Week Dec 12-18. Houston Airports also spread holiday cheer to passengers and visitors through free gift wrapping, performances by a visiting youth choir, Harmony in the Air, photo filters and more. Despite the challenges of Omicron, the new COVID-19 variant, the airport system experienced robust passenger traffic over the winter holidays. At Houston Spaceport, anchor tenant Intuitive Machines broke ground for its new $40 million lunar production and operations center. The IAH Terminal Development Program, ITRP, continues to be on track and within budget and will provide tremendous 5-star benefits to the traveling public and the City of Houston.

Connections - June 2021

Houston Spaceport is quickly becoming a focal point for aerospace innovation attracting aerospace companies that will further support the commercial aerospace industry and there are many new developments now underway.  George Bush Intercontinental Airport recently marked an important milestone. As construction continues on the IAH Terminal Redevelopment Program, the team recently learned that they surpassed more than 2 million manhours without a reportable incident since its inception in 2015.
